An Astronaut's Guide To The Wild Atlantic Way

The promotions team at the Irish Tourist Board pulled off the coup of the century, netting him as our Irish Tourism Ambassador...

Since his return from space and subsequent retirement, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield has been a busy man,socially!!!...I was lucky enough to meet him at
a book signing and was startled at his modesty with an aura of warmth and friendliness, very down to earth gent.

Down To Earth Human Being!
Hadfield was raised on a farm in southern Ontario, Canada. His early interest in the space came as a child as he watched the Apollo 11 Moon landing on
TV...little did he know he would become the first Canadian to walk in space.

His personal mission!
Chris joined the Royal Canadian Air Cadets where he earned a powered pilot scholarship and went on to graduate in mechanical engineering.Sticking with air
corp operations completing fighter training in Military College he was the first CF-18 pilot to intercept a Soviet Tupolev Tu 95 long-range bomber. His
outstanding career continued having later been accepted into the Canadion Space Agency(1992).
Destined for further expeditions his first visit to the International Space Station(ISS) was in April 2001 where he helped install the Canadarm2.

The 'Man Who Fell To Earth' space oddity..

While commanding his space mission Expedition35,he gained popularity by chronicling life aboard the space station taking pictures of earth and posting through social media..in no time he attracted attention globally and brought the life of space into the public domain in a mind blowing way! His mission ended in May 2013 when he decided to retire after a 35-year career as a military pilot and astronaut. His last broadcast from space as we know it came in the form of music video which went viral (most apt departure from his final mission) originally sung by artist David Bowie...space oddity.
